1983 Marker for Huntington’s Disease (HD) gene found.
1985 Formal Launch of Huntington’s Disease Association of Ireland.
1991 Mary Robinson, President of Ireland becomes Patron of HDAI.
1992 First full-time worker employed.
Members of HDAI and HDA Northern Ireland visit President Robinson in Áras an Uachtaráin and the Lord Mayor of Dublin in the Mansion House.
1993 Scientist finds HD gene.
1994 HDAI hosts European Huntington Association meeting in Trinity College.
1995 Scientists discover HAP-1 a protein that binds to huntingtin (the protein  expressed by the HD gene) and may work with it to cause HD.
1996 Dr. Gill Bates develops transgenic mouse model.
1997 Breakthrough in HD research announced in Cell and Nature publications.
Dr. Andrew Greene appointed Clinical Geneticist, National Genetics Centre, Dublin.
1998 Mary McAleese, President of Ireland becomes Patron of HDAI.
